MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS / PROPERTIES
1. Polypropylene – Thermal Properties
Softening Point: Polypropylene plastifies at 150 – 155c
Effect of High Temperature: Melts at 1750c
Effect of Low Temperature: Polypropylene retains its flexibility at very low temperature and does not become rigid under freezing conditions
Flammability on the normal PP: Burns slowly in air, fine filaments tend to melt and drop away before propagating a flame
Chemical Properties PP: Being a paraffin hydrocarbon is inherently chemically inert and highly resistant to a wide range of chemicals at ordinary temperatures. PP fibres have a high resistance to acids and alkalis at all concentrations. They are attacked by nitric acid. They are insoluble in most common organic solvents at room temperature.
PP: Is an outstanding electrical insulator, especially to high frequency currents.
Insects and Micro-organisms: The fibres are not digested by insects and are completely resistant to bacteria, mildew and other micro-organisms. This makes them virtually rot proof.
2. Nylon – Thermal Properties
Softening Point: Nylon softens at 235-2400c
Effect of High Temperature: Melts at 2600c
Effect of Low Temperature: Nylon retains its flexibility at very low temperature and does not become rigid under freezing conditions
Flammability of Nylon: Burns with difficulty will not maintain combustion, stick pt 235oc – 240 oc, melting pt 260 oc, burns with a smell of celery
